Info

They have a whitish-yellowish stripe down the back. Females have a white stomach, while males have a bluish-greenish stomach. When they are young they have a blue tail and adults have a brown tale. In the daytime they will be under the sun and eat on insects.

Facts!😎

 This large lizard is seen a lot in the desert under the sun at 100℉. Its name is a Native American name for "bad" or "dismal".  It has many wrinkles, allowing it to expand.  

Diet

Chuckwalla are herbivores, they don't eat meat but they eat fruit and vegetables.

Facts!🦎

This creature can be found under moist rocks 0r in loose sandy soils. Breeding males can get orange markings on their stomach or belly. They have two pale lines running down their back.  Like other geckos, it will detach its tail if it feels threatened.

Family- Crotaphytidae

Size-  3.4 to 4.7 inches 

Where They Live- near Great Basin

Habitat- open desert

 Facts!

 This creature is not poisonous, but they still have powerful jaws and have a powerful bite! The skin can change color or shapes depending on the temperature! During breeding season males develop red stomachs, and females get red markings on their sides!

Where They Live- Arizona

Habitat- arid places with little water

 Facts

 This lizard is the only venomous lizard in all of the US! It uses its snake-like tongue to smell its prey! It hunts at night and rests during the day and sometimes if it has to, it will climb trees in search of prey!

 Only Venomous Lizard in US

 This unique lizard is special for being the only venomous lizard in the United Sates of America and lives in Arizona. Its bites are very painful although there has been no reports of any death. They chew their prey, and the venom moves through grooves in their teeth and kills their prey. The bright side of this is that it only lives in Arizona and places around it, so if you don't live in desert-like places in Arizona you're fine.

Where They Live- five islands in southeastern Indonesia (Komodo, Rinca, Gili Monstang, Gili Dasami, and Flores 

Habitat- rugged and hilly covered in forest and savanna grassland

The Komodo Dragon is the biggest and most dangerous and deadliest lizard in the world! When threatened it can sprint at 11-13 miles an hour! They can eat 80% of their weight in one feeding!

 You might think the WSGL (Western Slender Glass Lizard) is a snake but really it is a lizard.  This may surprise you, but here are the reasons it's a lizard: stiff body, eyelids, external ear openings, and a rigid jaw. It has lateral grooves, which allow it to expand and make it easier to ingest prey. Like Leopard Geckos, when attacked it will lose its tail to distract predators, but it will regenerate.

How To Know It's Not a Snake 

You might get this lizard messed up with a snake but no problem! This article will teach you to recognize if its a lizard or snake. Hello, this is Benji (Sophie's brother) and this article will be about  the "Texas Horned Lizard"

Size- the average is 2.7 in (69mm) the highest record for males is 3.7 in (94mm) and females is 4.5 in (114 mm)
Where They Live- ranges to Colorado,Kansas,Texas, and northern Mexico
Habitat- arid climates

Fun Facts

The Texas Horned Lizard is one out of fourteen species of its spiky relatives! When in danger it will shoot blood out of its eyes! It is adapted to arid places with sparse vegetation! Wow,those are some cool facts and those are my only ones.

The Texas Horned Lizard rarely shoots its blood out of its eyes at humans instead if you hold one it will most likely hiss at you sorry if that disappoints you. :(

Hello, readers!

After an incredibly long hiatus, I believe it's time to return to my blogging days as Gecko Girl. My last post was in 2012, and it is now the end of 2018. Even though many years have passed, I still own 2 leopard geckos, Tarzania and Little Guy, and my love for the species has not waned. Tarzania bears much resemblance to Rosebud, my first and most beloved leopard gecko.

More good news- Benji, one of my brothers, is now 11 years old, and has a passion for reptiles! We were researching herpetology when I remembered this blog and suggested he and I start writing on it again. You can thank him for the resumption of reptilian articles, which we will both be writing.

So readers, thank you for being patient all these years. I hope you find the blog to be the same quality (or better) as before!

Love geckos

Geckos can fall in love too. If they didn't there wouldn't be any more geckos!!  But they mate in an unusual way. They love bite.  It seems crazy,but it isn't.  I'll tell you how it works.  The male grasps the female by the neck with his jaws. The female might have some wounds on her neck.  As long as they are not bleeding to much          or infected you don't need to worry about them.  Well, there you go.  How to mate a Leopard gecko.

Finding and dying.

                                                         

Rosebud and me after I got my tonsils out and we found her in the garage.

                                                           

When we found Rosebud in early spring her tail looked nice and fat, and she looked pretty healthy herself, but she was  DEHYDRATED!!!!   We gave her water and lots of crickets and she got healthy again.  And so here comes the bad part. We moved to West Virginia and she stopped eating.  We took her to the vet one day  and the vet gave her some medicine but that didn't really help her so we gave her water and baby food [mushed up chicken].                                                                                                                                                           But     she was still doing bad because her tail skin is really lose,so we took her back to the vet and she gave Rosebud a shot and when we left she gave us some more medicine but we must have given her to much because a couple days after that trip to the vet she died.

Sorry, I took so long to write on my blog.I have some good news,I have new pets, and some bad news, Paris died.  Well she was sick, but she was only a couple months old. But at least I still have three pets.  If you've read      my other things about my little gecko you know who I' m talking about. But you don't know who my new pets are? Okay okay I'll tell you their names,the first one I got was named Lizard but we call Lizzy, she is spotted.  And my other gecko is named Chysanthamum but we call Chris, she is a special breed because she doesn't have any spots.  MY PETS!!!  P.S. try to find all three geckos!

I have a leopard gecko and a mediterranean house gecko.    If you have a little gecko and a big gecko put them in different cages' or they might try to fight each other.  My leopard gecko's name is Paris and my mediterranean house gecko is named little Rosebud the 2nd.

Texas Banded gecko facts!

Texas Banded geckos have yellow, pink or brown stripes on their back.  They will eat crickets and flightless fruit flies.

Leopard geckos bite!

Leopard geckos sure have a bite but they don't have teeth!  The gecko I have is only a baby but it bites hard.They only poop one to three times a week! Baby leopard geckos bite because they are nervous or scared.

Leopard gecko sleep mood

Leopard geckos are nocturnal.  That means that they sleep in the day and are awake at night.  There should at least be ten mealworms and fifteen crickets in their cage so they can hunt them at night.

When Leopard geckos shed their skin, they eat it.  Leopard geckos'  tails should be fat but not to fat, 'cause that's where they store their energy.
